Magic & moonshine

Everything is magical, even white plastic bags! The dark twilight time in Lapland definitely has its moments. At least here, where the winter is still winter, reindeer herders are tough guys (and girls) and the elves are everywhere before Christmas. Elf called Holly Berry had some free time and went touring with her elf friends to the magical little mountains of Lapland.

Luckily we had the moon accompanying us when touring at Äkäskero few days ago. No headlamps, the moonshine was all we needed and it must have been the most beautiful tour ever. My first full moon tour. Peace and quietness, deep frosted trees and everything really looked magical. Every now and then we could hear huskies barking or howling (yes, they were huskies) but otherwise it was just the sound when we moved the skis through the snow. There’s nothing to complain about the downhill part either!

Timo making the steps at Pirunkuru

This morning we were on our way to Pirunkuru (Devil’s ….Couloir?) already before daylight (that’s not really early though). Some people with snowshoes had been there earlier, and we had a nice track to follow almost all the way up. Even without those tracks it would have been quite easy to find because there is a summer hiking trail going to Pirunkuru from the Kesänki lake. The visibility around us was poor, but we could see almost perfectly in the couloir. The rest of the world just wasn’t there.

The snow was a bit wind crust in the beginning, but still fun to ride. I think we were the first ones skiing there this winter. Niiiceeeee!! :)
